AES Crypt reads and writes file in the .aes file format. The file format is easily identifiable by software. Packetizer does not claim exclusive rights to the .aes file format. It may be used in commercial and open source products without any restrictions or costs whatsoever. However, in keeping with the spirit of open source and ensuring that users are always able to read and write .aes files, we would like to request that any other developers of AES file encryption software that produces an .aes file use this file format for the benefit of interoperability.

To date, there are three versions of the .aes file format, which are numbered starting with version 0.

The current file format is version 2 and is shown below. The major enhancement to this version is the ability to have user-defined "tags" that may be inserted into the encrypted file. These tags are inserted by AES Crypt or by other software that knows how to read and write the .aes file format. These tags are not encrypted and may be altered after the .aes file is created, without modifying the contents of the encrypted parts of the file. Tags should never be considered secure information.

File extension m3u is used by following file type(s):

 file type description:
Default file extension for .m3u file type:
MP3 songs playlist file
M3U (Moving Picture Experts Group Audio Layer 3 Uniform Resource LocatorMP3 URL) is a computer file format that stores multimedia playlists. It was originally implemented in Winamp, although it is now supported by many applications, including VLC media player, XMMS, foobar2000, JuK, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, iTunes, QuickTime Player, Yahoo! Music Engine, JetAudio, RokuLabs SoundBridge, Spider Player, and PlayStation Portable.

An .m3u file is a metafile playlist that references .mp3 files and provides additional metadata for the items in the playlist. Each song and its location has its own line. The locations can be either absolute or relative local pathnames (e.g., "C:\My Music\Chanson.mp3" or "Chanson.mp3") or they can be URLs. The file can also include comments, prefaced by the "#" character. In extended M3U, "#" also introduces extended M3U directives.

One common use of the M3U file format is creating a playlist file that contains a single entry pointing to a stream on the Internet. The created file provides easy access to that stream and can be used for things like downloading from a website or for emailing, or for Internet radio listening.

The unicode version of M3U format is M3U8 format, it can include UTF-8 unicode characters.

File extension lrc is used by following file type(s):

Default file extension for .lrc file type:
Lyric file
The LRC file extension is generally used for files that contain lyrics data with time tags to synchronize with media files. There are a few media players and plugins support that LRC format: Media Commands, Lyrics Library, Lyrics Power, Lyrics Universe and Winamp Lyrics3 plugin.

Simple LRC Format: it is a LRC format developed by Kuo (Djohan) Shiang-shiang and his lyrics displayer was probably the first program that tried to simulate Karaoke performance. This format contains only time tags for lines and doesn't support real-time lyrics line progressive coloring. All players mentioned above support this format.

Enhanced Lyrics Format: it is a more powerful LRC format developed by Media Commands based on the simple LRC format. Time tag for word (or syllable) is allowed. With skillful synchronization technique, this format can be used to simulate real Karaoke performance by doing real-time lyrics line progressive coloring. This format is already used in real-time Video Karaoke Show. Currently, only Media Commands supports this format.
